Monogram, Robert Rauschenberg, 1955-59.
I love how Rauschenberg combines the high (monograms—complicated royal initial designs) and the low (goat and tire). Really, is there a difference between art and everyday life? Art doesn’t have to be oil on canvas, it can be tire on goat.
Also Rauschenberg is always so witty and irreverent. Makes the whole thing that much better.
